Homemade Baby Food

So, my son's past baby food now but I have some great things to share that he's been loving!

For breakfast he loves Oatmeal.  At first I fed him plain Gluten Free Oats with raisins, almond milk and a little agave.  This was great for awhile but then he got bored with that.  I stuck with the plain Gluten Free oats because anything else pre made would be loaded with sugar.

I now alternate between:

Gluten Free oats
1 tablespoon all natural peanut or sunflower seed butter
1 teaspoon organic maple syrup

It's heaven!

or I try:

Gluten Free oats
1 teaspoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon agave
dash cinnamon
almond, coconut milk
raisins

Also delicious!

Of course I also do fruit in the morning and sometimes toast, gluten free waffles or whatever else he's hungry for.  Unfortunately, he's never been into eggs.  But, this oatmeal is a hit!

For snacks we give him all kinds of things.  He doesn't do well with too much dairy so his main source of calcium are his cups of milk which consist of Rice and Hemp milk.  We do rice cheese and this fabulous Almond yogurt as well (completely dairy free).  It's great plain but sometimes I stir fresh fruit, jam or cinnamon and agave.  I love it for myself as well.  I mix it into to smoothies for myself and Jackson!

Some more yummy baby food!

I admit that sometimes, I buy jars of organic baby food out of convenience.  If you're on the run and have nowhere to heat the food, it's simple because all you have to do is stir and serve.  However, jars of baby food are seriously expensive!  If I have a little extra time and supplies on hand, it's seem crazy to me to spend over a $1 on something that costs me about $.25 to make (if that).  My son is an eater so, if I were buying jars of food, I'd be buying 5-6 jars a day!  Here's my solution : )

I have 2 new concoctions for you...

Banana Pear Pie

I steamed some pear and raisins, mixed it with banana and a sprinkle of cinnamon.  So delicious and a great way to add a little iron and fiber with the raisins (suitable from 8 months).  Freeze in an ice cube tray for a up to 3 months.  I end up using it way before that though!  When you're ready, just pop them out of the ice cube tray, add a little baby brown rice cereal and unsweetened rice milk and it'll be a filling meal for your baby.

Tropical Treat

This one is also super easy (just how I like it!).  I keep a bunch of frozen fruit and veggies on hand at all times.  That way I always have some when I'M ready to cook.  This tropical treat is made by quickly steaming (you can microwave too, but keep it to a minimum and always microwave using a glass dish!) frozen mango, peach, chopped kale and add half a fresh ripe banana.  This dish is so good, I ended up making some for myself.  I do that a lot : )  At least I know that what my child is eating, is healthy and tasty!!  I love that I was able to get a dark green in there such as kale without sacrificing taste.  Try this dish immediately!

Yogurt

This yogurt is so good, I had to make some for myself!
I decided to make this because I wanted to introduce yogurt into my son's diet but all the yogurts on the market are filled with sugar and unnecessary ingredients.
Most Pediatricians agree that giving your baby yogurt around 7-8 months is highly beneficial for their digestive system and in incorporating needed fats into their diet.  Typically experts say to not give cow's milk products to your child before the age of 1 but, the reason they say that, is because they don't want mother's to stop breast/ formula feeding.  The culturing that takes place when making yogurt and cheese breaks down the lactose and is often easier to digest.

This recipe is delicious and suprisingly easy to make.
Enjoy!

Banana Yogurt

Whole milk (preferably Greek organic) plain yogurt
1/2 mashed banana
Dash cinnamon
1 tsp agave nectar (optional)

Depending on what stage your baby is in, you can leave it lumpy or blend it if your child is used to a smoother consistency.

Here's another quick, easy recipe that's so good!

Banana Papaya Yogurt

Plain yogurt
1/2 papaya
1/2 banana

I blended this yogurt. The papaya tends to be stringy and can be difficult for a baby to eat if it's not blended.

Hope your babies enjoy these dishes as much as mine did : )
